Do individuals making staffing decisions have an ethical responsibility to know the measurement issues? Why or why not?
Student response
Individuals making staffing decisions have an ethical responsibility to know measurement issues because measurements are used to determine a person’s status within an organization. Those making staffing decisions will make determinations whether to hire someone, promote an employee, and reward employees using measurement as a method to make those decisions. Using a measurement system, certain attributes are assessed and given a numerical value. Values assigned to an employee can then be compared to the values assigned to others based on ranking. Using this type of system, there is less of a chance for biases to affect decisions.
