Hello fellow classmates,
1. Why is it necessary to have U.S. compliance laws?
It is to protect the citizen that works for a private company. The company must abide by certain laws to protect the data of the users. It is so businesses do not use the information within their database to exploit their employee’s. A person’s identity can cost a substantial amount of money and certain laws protect this information from being used. For instance, the HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) prevents medical information from being seen by outsiders. The objective is to work the citizens in the country feel safe, In return, it creates a “stable sector of the economy, thus giving the government has a reliable source of tax revenue†(Johnson p 56). This creates a society who is willing to abide by the rules and regulation within the govern states.
2. What is the importance of aligning security policies, controls and procedures with regulations?
Because security policies and regulations work hand and hand together. Companies should base their policies off of regulations set by the government. This is to prevent illegal activity such as money laundering within a business. If the company does not report budgets, payroll history, and income then they could be breaking the law. The use of policies aligning with regulations will, in return maximizes the shareholder value of the business and promotes greater expansion for the company. It is because people can trust their money within a company or know that they are being compensated for their work.
3. Do you believe that training is a necessity in the implementation of new policies? Please support your answers.
A new policy is a change to daily operations and it must be followed. There must be training on all changes to policies within an organization. For example, the military has a tattoo policy and there are changes to the policy every couple of years. If the military service members are not properly informed about the changes, then it could adversely affect their careers. Same applies in any work environment with any sort of policy that could end up in a loss of a job or temporary leave of absence because policies are not being followed. The training can be a simple email sent that informs a mandatory read before the week is over. It should be a part of the hiring process as well so new employees are informed about the policies within the workplace.
