Module 4 Case

First, view the presentation titled Sampling in Research and read the Module 4 background materials. Then prepare a 2- to 3-page paper (not including the cover sheet and bibliography) which addresses the following items:

  1. Select one of your quantitative research questions developed in Module 2 (or develop a new one) and use it here to guide your discussion of data collection.
    1. State your research question. Identify the quantitative methodology that is appropriate to use to conduct a study to answer your research question.
    2. Describe the data collection strategy (or strategies) you would use to collect data related to your research question. Please include a description of the surveys instruments, questionnaires, structured interviews, and/or existing records or other documents that you may use. Be very specific.
  2. View the presentations titled Examples of Distributions and Descriptive Graphs and Levels of Measurement and Choosing the Correct Statistical Test and read the Module 4 background materials. Then, address the following RQ: Is there a significant difference in final grades of students who are team-taught and students who are not team-taught in the EDU504 course at Trident University?
    • Describe the research methodology best suited for this study.
    • Discuss variables that need to be measured (IVs, DVs, any covariates or mediating variables).
    • Explain the type of data each variable represents (categorical: ordinal or nominal; or continuous: interval or ratio).
    • Explain data collection methodology, and type of instrument(s) that may be used to collect data.
    • Explain statistical tests most appropriate for data analysis (T-test, ANOVA, or simple regression analysis).

Module 4 SLP

Overview

The Session Long Project (SLP) for this course requires that you complete a matrix during Module 1. You will align common characteristics of the research process to each research methodology identified (see below). You will also write a narrative essay using this completed matrix for each SLP which requires you to read a published study and point out key research features within the study.

The Case Assignments and Session Long Project are not connected to each other. Your SLP work will entail using your analytical skills to complete the assignment.

Matrix

You must use the matrix as a reference to complete the Session Long Projects.

Submitting Your Assignments

You must submit each module’s SLP assignment (including the completed matrix and accompanying 3- to 4-page essay) at the same time that you submit each module’s Case Assignment.

The following sections will contribute to your overall SLP narrative essay:

Module 1 – Overview of the Research Process, including Types of Research, Examples of Research Methodologies, Research Questions, Variables, Types of Data, Role of Literature Review in the Research Process, Data Collection, Data Analysis, and Evaluation of findings.

Module 2 – Scenario 1: Culturally relevant teaching: A case study on teaching statistics in the high school setting

Module 3 – Scenario 2: Patients’ expectations to dental implant: A systematic review of the literature

Module 4 – Scenario 3: Methods in entrepreneurship education research: A review and integrative framework

In Module 4 you will combine all prior SLP module assignments and provide a PowerPoint briefing that includes an introduction, conclusion, and bibliography.

Each module of the Session Long Project will receive a grade and feedback. The final collated (or “combined”) document will receive a final project grade in Module 4.

SLP Assignment Expectations

Your task for the Module 4 SLP assignment is threefold:

First, read Scenario 3: Methods in entrepreneurship education research: A review and integrative framework. Then use your completed matrix to complete the second requirement:

Second, write a 3- to 4-page narrative essay in which you identify key features in Scenarios 1-3. You will answer the following questions:

  1. What type of research is used in the study?
  2. What is the research problem? Indicate examples in the study that contribute to the research problem.
  3. What type of research questions are presented?
  4. What are the research questions?
  5. What type of variables are used in the study and what are the variables?
  6. List 3 authors and the role they played in the literature review.
  7. What is the sample population?
  8. What method of data collection was used?
  9. How was data analysis accomplished?
  10. What were the findings of the study?

Third, combine all prior SLP module assignments and provide a PowerPoint briefing that includes an introduction, conclusion and bibliography.

Each module of the Session Long Project will receive a grade and feedback. The final collated (or “combined”) document will receive a final project grade in Module 4.

Module 4 Discussion:

–  Describe the following concepts: quantitative, qualitative and mixed research and provide the methods you would use to collect data.

– Present a quantitative research question (i.e., descriptive, correlational, or causal) and identify the attributes that would be measured and identify the appropriate statistical analysis test that should be applied to analyze prospective data (i.e., regression analysis, ANOVA, T-test, etc.
